Scoring Siblings: Levin Brothers Create First Israeli Pro Hockey Duo

Mike Levin Joins Brother David at Corona Brașov, Making Israeli Hockey History

Brașov, Romania – September 15, 2025In a historic moment for Israeli ice hockey, 19-year-old forward Mike Levin has signed with CSM Corona Brașov in Romania, joining his older brother David Levin on the club’s roster.

Mike Levin, seen here during his junior career with the OHL’s Niagara IceDogs, has now united with his brother at Corona Brașov.

This marks the first time that two Israeli brothers are playing together on the same professional hockey team. The move was facilitated through a collaboration between Corona Brașov and the Israel Ice Hockey Federation, aiming to develop young Israeli talent while strengthening ties with Romanian hockey.

On September 12, 2025, Mike Levin made his debut for Corona Brașov, and just two days later on September 14 he scored his first professional goal for the team – in only his second game. In that Sep. 14 matchup, David Levin registered an assist on a goal, making it the first time Israeli siblings each recorded points in the same pro game. This milestone thrilled fans and added another chapter to Israeli hockey history, as the Levin brothers’ immediate on-ice impact showcased their chemistry and skill.

“We are delighted to have such a great Israeli player joining his brother in the professional ranks,” a CSM Corona Brașov spokesperson said, reflecting on the significance of uniting the brothers. The club’s management noted that the energetic presence of the Levin duo has already given the team a boost. “This is not only a fantastic story for our club, but also an exciting development for hockey in both Israel and Romania,” the spokesperson added. Team officials and supporters alike are energized by the brothers’ reunion and the spark it has brought to the locker room.

Background on the Levin Brothers: David Levin, 25, is one of Israel’s most accomplished hockey exports. At age 12 he moved from Tel Aviv to Canada to pursue hockey, and he famously was drafted first overall in the 2015 Ontario Hockey League draft, launching a prominent junior career with the Sudbury Wolves. David went on to play professionally in multiple countries – including a stint in the KHL – before signing in Romania. Last season, in 2024–25, he was a standout for Corona Brașov with 16 goals and 39 assists (55 points) over 41 games in the Erste Liga, establishing himself as one of the team’s top offensive players. He has also represented Israel at the senior international level, bringing veteran experience and leadership to Brașov.

Mike Levin, 19, developed his game through the Canadian junior system and is considered one of the brightest young talents in Israeli hockey. Born in Tel Aviv and raised in both Israel and Canada, Mike played in the OHL for the London Knights and Niagara IceDogs during his youth career. Internationally, he starred for Israel’s U20 national team – he was named Team Israel’s best player at the most recent IIHF U20 World Championship Division II-B, after leading the squad to a silver-medal finish in that tournament. Mike’s scoring prowess and playmaking ability at the junior level caught the attention of Corona Brașov and the Israeli Federation, prompting this unique opportunity to join his brother in the pro ranks.

This brotherly reunion is more than just a feel-good story; it’s the result of a strategic partnership between the Israeli and Romanian hockey programs. The Israel Ice Hockey Federation actively worked with Corona Brașov to facilitate Mike Levin’s transfer as part of a broader development initiative. “We’re grateful for the collaboration with the Romanian Federation – it’s a win-win,” said an Israeli Ice Hockey Federation official, “and we hope this is just the beginning of more Israeli players gaining experience in European leagues.” Both federations view the Levins’ success as a promising precedent. By strengthening ties through such collaborations, they anticipate that more Israeli talent could soon follow in the brothers’ footsteps, further elevating Israel’s presence on the international hockey stage.

For Israeli hockey fans, the sight of David and Mike Levin on the ice together in Brașov is a proud and inspiring moment. As the 2025–26 season progresses, all eyes will be on the Levin brothers, who have already made history – and who promise to create many more memorable moments in the games to come.

Israeli Women’s Ice Hockey Team Makes History with Silver Medal Win

In a remarkable display of resilience, determination, and skill, the Israeli women’s national ice hockey team has etched its name in the history books by securing a silver medal at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division III, Group B tournament. The competition, held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, marked a watershed moment for Israeli hockey, as the team achieved this milestone just four years after its inception. This achievement stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the players, coaching staff, and supporters who have worked tirelessly to elevate women’s hockey in Israel.

A Journey of Perseverance

Founded in 2021, the Israeli women’s ice hockey team faced significant hurdles on its path to international success. The team had limited practice opportunities due to the scarcity of ice rinks in Israel, and many players had to juggle their commitment to the sport with military service, a requirement for young Israeli athletes. These challenges could have easily deterred a less committed group, but instead, they fueled the team’s passion and determination to improve.

The championship began with an early setback, as the Israeli squad fell to Bulgaria in their opening game. However, rather than allowing this defeat to define their tournament, the team rallied with an extraordinary comeback. Demonstrating exceptional teamwork, discipline, and skill, they secured commanding victories against Estonia, Bosnia, and Singapore. These wins propelled them to the silver medal, a historic feat for the relatively young program.

Several players delivered standout performances throughout the tournament. Goalie Yael Fatiev played a pivotal role in securing wins with her impressive shot-blocking abilities, while forwards Lior Leshem and Pnina Basov showcased their offensive prowess. Both Leshem and Basov finished among the tournament’s top scorers, amassing 10 points each, proving that Israel can compete at a high level on the international stage.

Overcoming Adversity

While the team faced formidable opponents on the ice, they also encountered external challenges that tested their focus and resilience. Pro-Palestinian demonstrations took place outside the Sarajevo arena, and at times, the Israeli national anthem was met with jeers from sections of the crowd. Additionally, during each game, the YouTube live streams mysteriously experienced audio disruptions during the Israeli anthem, raising concerns about potential bias or interference. Despite these distractions, the players remained resolute, refusing to let external factors shake their concentration or diminish their sense of national pride.

Throughout the tournament, the team’s unity and mental toughness became just as vital as their on-ice performance. The players leaned on each other for support, rallying behind their shared goal of bringing honor to their country. The silver medal serves not only as an athletic achievement but also as a symbol of perseverance in the face of adversity.

Looking Ahead

Following their historic success, the Israeli women’s ice hockey team has set its sights on even greater accomplishments in the coming years. Team leadership has expressed immense pride in the players’ commitment and growth, recognizing this moment as a stepping stone toward long-term development. With increased support from Israel’s hockey community and potential investment in training facilities, the team aspires to continue climbing the international ranks, aiming for gold in future tournaments.

This silver medal win is about more than just hockey—it represents the relentless spirit of Israeli athletes and their ability to overcome obstacles with determination and unity. As the team continues to grow, they serve as an inspiration to future generations of female hockey players in Israel, proving that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.

Team Israel Takes Silver at IIHF U20 World Championship: A Triumph in a Hard-Fought Tournament 🏒🇮🇱

The final game of the IIHF U20 World Championship was nothing short of thrilling, as Team Israel battled Iceland to a 3-2 victory in a hard-fought contest. The win not only capped off a remarkable tournament but also kept Israel’s medal hopes alive, with the team awaiting the final game of the night to determine their place on the podium.

A Nail-Biter From Start to Finish

From the first puck drop, it was clear that both teams were hungry for a medal. Israel and Iceland pushed each other to the limit, with intense play and relentless determination on display from start to finish.

Iceland struck first, forcing Israel to dig deep and respond with grit and resilience. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Israel had edged out a 3-2 victory, thanks to key plays from their defense and a few clutch goals. The win kept their medal hopes alive and showcased the growth of Israeli hockey on the international stage.

The Medal-Waiting Game

Despite the victory, Team Israel’s medal fate rested on the result of the final game between gold-medal Spain and host Serbia. The stakes were high:

  • If Spain won in regulation, Israel would claim the silver medal.
  • If Serbia won in regulation, Israel would secure bronze.

As the final game unfolded, it became clear that nothing would come easy. Spain and Serbia battled into a shootout, where Serbia ultimately came out on top. The result sealed Serbia’s bronze medal finish, while Israel proudly claimed silver—an incredible achievement after moving up a division from the previous year.

A Silver Worth Celebrating

Winning silver in such a competitive field is a monumental accomplishment for Team Israel. The team demonstrated tremendous growth, skill, and heart throughout the tournament, proving they belong at this higher level of competition.

With a few players aging out of the U20 program, the future of Israeli hockey still looks incredibly bright. Young talent coming through the pipelines promises to keep the momentum going for years to come.

Gratitude and Reflection

Team Israel extends its heartfelt thanks to Serbia for being outstanding hosts, the IIHF for organizing an incredible tournament, and to all the fans who supported the team every step of the way.

This silver medal is not just a win for the team but for Israeli hockey as a whole, showcasing the passion and potential of a program on the rise. Here’s to more success in the future—onward and upward! 🇮🇱🥈

Team Israel Secures Opening Victory Over Australia at IIHF U20 World Championship

The Israel U20 National Team came out firing on all cylinders, defeating Australia 5-2 in their first game of the 2025 IIHF U20 World Championship. In a thrilling match that kept fans on the edge of their seats, the Israelis showcased grit, skill, and determination, setting the tone for their campaign to defend their gold medal title.

A Tight Contest Early On

From the opening puck drop, it was clear this game was going to be a battle. Both teams traded chances in a fast-paced first period, with neither side willing to give an inch. Australia struck first, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to take an early lead. However, Team Israel quickly responded with a well-executed play that tied the game, leaving the score at 1-1 heading into the second period.

The second frame saw more back-and-forth action, as both teams pushed hard to gain the upper hand. The Israeli defense, anchored by stellar goaltending, held strong against an aggressive Australian attack. Midway through the period, Israel broke through again with a power-play goal, taking a 2-1 lead. But Australia wasn’t going away quietly, tying the game once more before the period ended.

Third Period Breakthrough

As the third period began, the tension was palpable. With the score tied at 2-2, every shift became a crucial battle. Team Israel found their rhythm midway through the final frame, dominating puck possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities. The breakthrough came with just under 10 minutes to play, as Israel netted a beautiful goal off a quick transition to take a 3-2 lead.

From that moment, the Israelis never looked back. A relentless offensive push led to two more goals in the final minutes, sealing the 5-2 victory. The defense locked down Australia’s attack, and the team celebrated as the final buzzer sounded.

A Statement Win

“This was the perfect way to start the tournament,” said a member of Team Israel’s coaching staff. “The players showed incredible heart and composure in a tough matchup. Everyone contributed, and this win gives us great momentum heading into the next game.”

The victory is a significant step in Israel’s quest for back-to-back gold medals. With a strong roster, including standout performances from IEHL alumni, the team has demonstrated they are a force to be reckoned with on the world stage.

Promoting Sportsmanship and Respect

In ice hockey, as in all sports, mutual respect and sportsmanship are fundamental values. Recent incidents have highlighted the importance of upholding these principles. Last season, during a game involving Israel’s women’s team, three players from Bosnia refused to shake hands with the Israeli players after the game, resulting in their suspension—a significant and appropriate step in reinforcing the spirit of sportsmanship.

In this championship, controversy arose when members of the Australian team chose not to remove their helmets during the Israeli anthem following their loss. Such actions undermine the unifying power of sports, and Israel Hockey expects a clear and strong response from both the Australian team and the World Hockey Association. Incidents like these must not occur again, as respect and unity are the cornerstones of athletic competition.

Despite these challenges, Israel remains steadfast in its commitment to representing the country with pride and integrity on the global stage. The Israeli women’s team will compete at the World Championships in Bosnia starting February 12, while the men’s team will face Australia again at the World Championships in Serbia in April.

Looking Ahead

The Israelis won’t have much time to rest, as they prepare for another big game tomorrow against Belgium. With confidence running high and the team clicking at the right time, Israel is poised to continue their winning ways.

Stay tuned for updates as the journey to gold continues! 🇮🇱💪
